Congressional Activities: Week of May 5, 2008

Here is this week's congressional hearings schedule, with links to the daily calendars for the House and Senate, the weekly House whip information (majority/minority), and the Senate floor schedule.

Of note: on Tuesday, the House Committee on Judiciary (Subcommittee on Commercial and Administrative Law) will hold a hearing on The Rulemaking Process and the Unitary Executive Theory. On Wednesday, the Senate Committee on Judiciary will examine two nominations to the Sixth Circuit, and on Thursday it will consider whether to provide for the appointment of additional federal circuit and district judges.

Senate Committee on Judiciary hearings to examine the nominations of Helene N. White, and Raymond M. Kethledge, both of Michigan, both to be United States Circuit Judges for the Sixth Circuit, and Stephen Joseph Murphy III, to be United States District Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan.

Senate Committee on Foreign Relations hearings to examine International  Convention for the Suppression of Acts of Nuclear Terrorism.

Senate Committee on Judiciary business meeting to consider S. 2840, to establish a liaison with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in United States Citizenship and Immigration Services to expedite naturalization applications filed by members of the Armed Forces and to establish a deadline for processing such applications, S. 2913, to provide a limitation on judicial remedies in copyright infringement cases involving orphan works, S. 2774, to provide for the appointment of additional Federal circuit and district judges,  S. 2756, to amend the National Child Protection Act of 1993 to establish a permanent background check system, and S. 1515, to establish a domestic violence volunteer attorney network to represent domestic violence victims.

Senate Committee on Intelligence closed hearings to examine certain intelligence matters.
